Hlas: No Regrets
I’m not exactly sure what made me decide to join the news staff. I think I was just tired of doing the same thing every day. I needed something different, something refreshing. Something to push me outside of my comfort zone. So I signed up. Do I regret it? Not at all.
News is not necessarily my cup of tea. I have never been extremely interested in watching the news, or keeping up with what is happening in our world. I can be socially awkward when giving interviews, and I don’t enjoy writing stories. So how in the world could a girl like me enjoy taking this class? The answer is simple. People.
While taking News, I have interacted with a number of people I wouldn’t have otherwise. And although I can be a little nervous, I really love having conversation. I love hearing interesting, inspiring, and personal stories. I love interacting with a person, and getting to step into their lives for a brief moment. And that, is nothing other than News.
On staff are a group of people I did not know very well in August. Now, after spending almost a whole school year with them, I am beyond thankful for the friendships formed and memories made in that newsroom. These are people I most likely would not have laughed with on a daily basis had I not joined News. These are people I will never forget.
Although news isn’t my cup of tea, I was still able to learn and grow as a reporter. Stepping outside of your comfort zone is never easy, but it is worth it. I am thankful for the opportunity to share a piece of my life with the Newsies. I am thankful for those who took the time to share their story with me.
