The Iowa All-State honor band and choir is considered to be one of the most challenging endeavors that a high school musician can undertake. Its audition process is lengthy, difficult, and competitive as students practice religiously for a chance at a spot in this prestigious band.
Band application:
The Band application process includes a prepared solo as well as the preparation of multiple potential scales. Members are required to choose two scales randomly from a sheet and play all potential octaves. Students are given three months to prepare as they delegate time in and outside of school.
Application for Choir:
The All-State Choir application process is very similar, as it requires students to prepare either a solo or group audition for review. At ADM, all honor choir members, regardless of All-state interest, participate in learning and analyzing all pieces given for auditions.
All-State Final Day:
Auditions for both Band and Choir members were held at Atlantic High School on October 25th this year. Student auditions took place throughout the day, with ample periods of rest and practice throughout. After hours of waiting, students’ results were released shortly after 4:00 PM the same day for both band and choir.
ADM’s Results relating to the Audition Process:
ADM’s All-state results this year end with seven accepted band members and four accepted choir members. Those accepted will continue to practice in preparation for future All-State events throughout the season.
