The time is coming up for seniors to begin preparing for closing the high school chapter, and to celebrate their graduation. Most graduates hold graduation parties and invite their friends and family to help them celebrate. With a month left of school for the class of 2026, planning for graduation parties has been underway.

Anna Holloway is a senior hosting a graduation party with three of her friends at Country Lane Lodge event venue in Adel.

“The planning began my sophomore year when my mom booked the venue. Most of the small details and planning has been done after Christmas. I made my own grad cards on Canva and printed them out to send after spring break.” Holloway said. “Something I am looking forward to is the picture boards I made as well as a slideshow. We are also catering Fiesta.”

Senior Grayson Sutter is also having his grad party with friends at Country Lane Lodge.

“My mom started planning it last summer, and I am excited to see a lot of my extended family that I haven’t seen in awhile.” Sutter said.

Faith McGinnis is another senior hosting her graduation party at her house. The party will consist of a walking taco bar and an ice cream bar, as well as a booth for all things theater from high school. “I started planning more recently, I have been busy with other stuff, but I technically started last year. I invited my close friends and family, along with some teachers.” McGinnis said. Throughout the last month of the school, students exchange grad cards in the halls, and teachers display their students’ cards in their classrooms.

“For graduation, I’m excited to leave. For my party, I’m most excited to show off my theater stuff and eat walking tacos,” McGinnis said. For many, graduation can seem like a bittersweet time in life. Closing a chapter and beginning a new one that comes with change, uncertainty, and adjustment can be scary. Celebrating accomplishments with loved ones is a positive way to focus on all of the good from the past, and be excited for future endeavors.
