After getting second at state with Corbin Reed, Colby Simons, Roen Lenz, and Ethan Johnson, Lucas Faber is headed to nationals. To get second among the 28 teams this group had to communicate, delegate tasks, read and interpret plans, and select materials all while having a high focus on safety and organization to complete a building within 4 and a half hours.
Farber said “ well we first got the plans a few weeks early and so with Reams we all practiced what we need just make sure we know how to cut and build everything and then once we got there the people that were in charge told us everything and then we got to work and went through the plans and just it did as the plans said.”
Lucas has chosen to go to nationals after state but it comes at a cost. $3000 is what is being aimed for.
Farber said “right now we’re trying to sell the buildings that we built at state for like a chicken Coop or playhouse or anything it could be used as and then otherwise just asking for any money that anybody wants to give to benefit me to get there.”
Mr. Reams has been helping Lucas to raise these funds because he believes that Lucas is already good enough for nationals.
Mr. Reams said “ the preparation has been all of the like fundraising work leading up to it. In terms of like skills, he’s just, he’s got skills.”
Nationals is an unknown territory for Lucas but he is already a great builder. Mr. Reams has been teaching Lucas that this isn’t just about building.
Mr. Reams said “ We have been working professional skills of being able to like write an email and being able to speak in front of the whole entire assembly, which he kind of mumbled his way through it, but we’re working on those things so a little bit of the professional side.”
Lucas isn’t afraid though. He isn’t going to nationals for no reason he knows his stuff and is confident in his abilities.
Farber said “I’ve always been woodworking as a kid so I kind of know a lot of things but just with Reams I’m just getting the small little things down so I know how to do them.”
