National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Tuesday, November 15 was the NHS induction for the newest members of 2016-2017. This year 18 new members were chosen from the junior and senior class. Those members include Sydney Canney, Anna Clowser, Elizabeth Denherder, John DenHerder, Abbey Fouts, Amy Gottschalk, Cassidy Hammerberg, Jillian Hofmann, Dakota Kahler, Nicholas Lindgren, Kimberly Lockard, Abigail Mullen, Emily Neumann, Alyssa Pingel, Emily Pottebaum, Samantha Schepers, Cade Stine-Smith and Emily Wilkerson.

The ceremony consisted of the NHS advisor, Charity Miller, two guest speakers, and NHS representatives acknowledging, teaching and finally presenting the new members with their certificate and pin.

The guest speakers were Cris Adkins and Superintendent Greg Dufoe, who emphasized the four characteristics of NHS and the great honor of being in NHS.

Overall, NHS has 30 members for 2016-2017 and they’re excited to lead more events including this spring’s blood drive.
