Donald Trump has made a lot of changes since he was elected into office, and there have been a lot of reactions to those changes. Here are some of the bigger changes made since he was voted president.
PBS/NPR Defunding
Our president signed an executive order on May 1st cutting all funding for both of these programs citing that it was “consistent with my Administration’s policy to ensure that Federal funding does not support biased and partisan news coverage.” The CEO of PBS has said that this is a “blatantly unlawful executive order, issued in the middle of the night.” The part of the government that funds these networks, the Cardiopulmonary Bypass or Corporation for Public Broadcasting board or CPB for short, had three of its five board members fired before the making of this executive order. The CPB board has tried suing the Trump administration because of this.
Alcatraz Reopening
Donald Trump has said “Today, I am directing the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to reopen a substantially enlarged and rebuilt ALCATRAZ.” This famous prison was shut down originally because it was three times more expensive than every other prison. The prison would need to be restored due to its many years of not being used which could cost a lot of money.
Birthday Parade
Our president is holding a parade on his birthday. He has claimed that the parade is not only for his birthday. “We have the greatest missiles in the world. We have the greatest submarines in the world. We have the greatest army tanks in the world. We have the greatest weapons in the world. And we’re going to celebrate it,” Trump said. The price of the parade is unknown, but Trump believes that the parade is worth the price. The parade is set to start at Arlington, Virginia and move to Washington. It will have WWII era tanks, planks and guns.
Foreign Film Tariff
President Trump has declared that foreign films are a national security threat. Because of this he has put a 100% tariff on all international films. Our president said “ “WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!” Because of how vague this statement is the Motion Picture Association has not commented on this matter yet.
These are just a few different things that our president has claimed he has wanted to do.
