Evelyn Horgen is the January Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Anne and Nathan Horgen and holds a 4.1 gpa. Horgens favorite three classes throughout highschool have been AP Chem because of the lab experiments and how interesting it is. She participates in band and loves how it challenges her while also making friendships throughout her high school career. Horgen says she loves to take DMACC classes as well because it is an opportunity to learn something outside of what is offered at ADM regularly., Horgen is involved in silver cord, National Honor Society, cross country, track, band, and drumline. She believes silver cord and NHS have taught her how to be, in her words, a " happy volunteer" and the value of service. Cross country and track have helped her endurance, resilience, and strong work ethic. Horgen says her involvement in band and drumline has led to her knowledge of teamwork and how to push herself. Horgen volunteers for many summer camps, and the athletic and fine arts boosters. She plans to attend Iowa State University next year and study environmental engineering. Her advice to others is " work hard even if things don't come easily." Being student of the month means a lot to Horgen and shows she has worked very hard in all aspects of school- academic an athletic. In recognition of her achievements Raccoon Valley Bank has donated $100 to the ADM scholarship foundation.
