Senior Payton Taylor is November’s Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Mike and Lindsay Taylor and has a 4.18 GPA. Taylor said that her favorite classes are Agriculture, Human Body Systems, and DMACC courses. She is involved in many activities throughout the year including volleyball, track and field, student council, softball, FFA, FCA, NHS, and speech. She says these activities have taught her to be a better leader and helped her with time management. Taylor also participates in Humanitarian cord and volunteers with the schools, Make-A-Wish, and Meals for the Heartland. Taylor plans to attend Iowa State University. She plans to major in pre-vet and ag. business. She also plans to minor in Zoology. When asked what advice she would give to others she said, try new things and put yourself in uncomfortable situations. Taylor believes that she was selected for Student of the Month because she is involved in a lot of activities and always gives a helping hand. She feels honored to be recognized and happy to see that her hard work is paying off.
London Warmuth is one of the Kiwanis Humanitarian Students of the Month. Warmuth is a senior and is the daughter of Michael and Audra Warmuth. Warmuth volunteers in many places but she often volunteers for the school, her church, or with Kiwanis. She likes to volunteer with these organizations because she likes to help her community, learn, and meet new people. Warmuth recommends that others should volunteer because it is an easy way to get involved. She suggests that others volunteer through the school, their churches, or another organization. Warmuth’s advice to others about a life of service is that volunteering is very fulfilling and it’s nice to look back at what you have done. Warmuth believes that she was honored with Kiwanis Humanitarian Student of the Month because of the countless hours she serves and her willingness to serve. She believes that it is an honor because it recognizes her time giving back.
Katelyn Priestley is Kiwanis Humanitarian Student of the Month. She is currently a senior. Priestley is the daughter of Andy and Julie Priestley. Priestley volunteers for many organizations. She volunteers for her church in a variety of different ways, she helps the Kiwanis Club sell and deliver wreaths, and helps the band and choir serving for Bar and Stars. Priestley recommends Bars for Stars for others because it is an easy way to get started but very helpful for the fine arts. When asked what advice she would give to others about a life of service, she said that it’s good to volunteer and makes you feel better even if it is a simple task. Priestley believes that she was honored as Kiwanis Humanitarian Student of the Month because she volunteers a lot and helps the Kiwanis. She says that being recognized feels good and shows that she is being noticed.
Reyna Shirley-Brown is November Fine Art Student of the Month for onstage in theater. She is the daughter of Dani and Steve Shirley-Brown and is currently a senior. Shirley-Brown is involved in the musical, speech, and jazz choir. She has learned many values from these activities, including community, acceptance, and teamwork. Within these activities she holds multiple positions, she is on the speech leadership team and is a thespian. Shirley-Brown encourages others to join these activities because they are fun, you can meet a lot of people, and you can learn about activities and yourself. She believes that being Fine Arts Student of the Month is a reflection of someone’s hard work and she was chosen because of her hard work in the musical, Newsies, where she was given the lead role of Katherine Plumer.
Kylie Van is November’s Fine Art Student of the Month for backstage. Van is the daughter of Thu and Aaron Van and is currently a senior. She is involved in theater and is a stage manager and thespian. Within theater, Van learned the values of being a strong leader and strong communication skills. Van believes that others should join theater because you can make new friends and it is something to do with both your new and old friends. She believes that everyone is one big family and they are all close. To Van, Student of the Month means that even though she is not on the stage performing, her work is still being seen. She believes that she was honored as Student of the Month because as stage manager she calls the shots and has a lot of responsibility. She always does the work to the best of her ability backstage.
Anna Holloway is the November Student Citizen of the Month. Anna is the daughter of Pat and Kary Holloway. Holloway feels that she exemplifies the important aspects of citizenship by including everyone, being kind to everyone, and being considerate of those around her. Her advice to others about displaying positive citizenship is to follow the golden rule and understand where others come from. Holloway is honored to be Student Citizen of the Month and thinks that she was honored because she exemplifies important traits of being a good citizen.
Addison Herrick is the November Volleyball Athlete of the Month. She is the daughter of Sarah and Nick Herrick and is a senior. Herrick has been playing Volleyball for seven years and started when she was in fifth grade. She loves the team atmosphere that surrounds volleyball and has made some of her best friends through volleyball. Overall, she loves the competitive sport. To Herrick, Athlete of the Month is an honor. Her goal was to be impactful on her teammates and to be a leader, being Athlete of the Month shows that she was successful in those goals. She believes she was chosen because of the connections she made with her teammates, her hard work for the team, and her positive attitude to the sport.
Marley Akey was chosen for Cheer Athlete of the Month. She is the daughter of Danielle and Michael Akey and is currently a junior. Akey has been doing cheer for two years. She loves the sport because they have a strong team and they require and exemplify hard work. She believes that Athlete of the Month means that they have worked hard during practices and competitions. Akey believes that she was chosen because she is dedicated to the sport and always puts 100% effort into practice.
Darragh McHugh is esports November Athlete of the Month. Darragh is the son of Rachael Liam McHugh and is a sophomore. McHugh has played eSports for two years and participates in each season. He loves how the sport has a sense of community and is accessible to all and not just the high school. McHugh believes that he was honored as Athlete of the Month because he has made the varsity one team and has contributed to the team both inside and outside of the practices. He believes that Athlete of the Month means a lot to be validated.
Ty Landphair is the Boy’s Cross Country Athlete of the Month for November. Ty is the son of Chris and Dina Landphair. He is currently a junior and has been in cross country for three years. In cross country, Landphair loves the team and coaches. To him, Athlete of the Month means that it shows that he has done well and put in a lot of dedication and effort. Landphair believes that he was honored as Athlete of the Month because he has had a very good year and has run well over the season.
Emily Piepmeier is the Girl’s Cross Country November Athlete of the Month. She is the daughter of Amy and Fritz Piepmeier and is a senior. She has been running cross country for six years. Piepmeier loves cross country because of the community and the team environment of the sport. She loves how everyone on the team is positive and encouraging. To Piepmeier, Athlete of the Month is special because she’s been committed to the team and it shows her effort and love for the sport. She believes that she was honored because she tries to keep a positive attitude and improve to help the team and herself during the season.
Mrs.Gettler is one of the Teachers of the Month for November. Mrs.Gettler has been a teacher for 15 years and has been at ADM for 10 years. She believes that she was nominated by several of her students and the FFA students. Mrs.Gettler became a teacher because she has a passion for agriculture and enjoys teaching students and helping them find a career. She also believes that teaching FFA is a plus. She believes that being Teacher of the Month is nice for students to show and see that teachers care for them.
Miss Dirkx is a November Teacher of the Month. Miss Dirkx has been teaching for three years and has taught all three years at ADM. Miss Dirkx became a teacher because she loves science and knew she wanted to be a teacher, putting two together she became a science teacher. To Miss Dirkx Teacher of the Month is nice to hear feedback. She loves teaching and it is nice to know that people see that.
