Among the crowded room, Nikki Haley connects with Iowa’s voters before the awaited Iowa Caucasus.

This January marked the long-awaited race of the Presidential Office for the years 2024-2028. Although we are well over 200 days away from the election, the work begins long before the date of the election. Presidential candidates first have to become the nominee for their party which is decided based on the primary elections or the Caucasus for the Republican Parties.

The Caucasus is the Republican Party’s way of determining who is going to be the Presidential nominee for this year’s election. The people who align with the Republican Party are able to vote for who they would prefer the nominee to be based on a few candidates. Although Iowa is the first primary/caucus of the year, this is not the end for the aspiring Republican nominees. In the month of January, there have been two primaries, one in Iowa and the other in New Hampshire. In both of the recent primaries, President Trump has won by a sweeping amount. Following the primary, elections can seem difficult, however, news organizations can make it much easier. Tuning into any of your favorite news organizations can be a great way to stay updated with politics and the election turning points.

This year, President Trump won over 70% of Iowa, with Nikki Haley behind. Before the Iowa Caucuses, there appeared to be three front runners for the nominee but after the Caucasus, there were only two. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis dropped out of the race, endorsing President Trump. Although there are many days until the general election, lots can change in short amounts of time.

While the Republican caucasus have swarmed the media, it is important to also pay attention to the other sides of the aisle. The Democratic Party is holding its primaries at or around the same times as the Republican Primaries. Politics can seem scary, but it is important to remember to vote if you are able. Registering for voting is very simple, and can be done online. Remember, as an American, it is your right to vote.
