Book Review: Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

Book Review: Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

This young adult novel is written by Laurie Halse Anderson. It is a fictional story of a high school freshman Melinda Sordino who was afraid to say anything after something happened at a party. She stopped speaking and started expressing her feelings through the art in her art class.

She didn’t have any friends at school because of what she did at the party and became a total outcast and nobody liked her except for a new girl Heather who became her friend but then also left her.

This freshman year was a real struggle for Melinda because no one understood her. She started missing school bus and sneaking out, she also made herself an escape room at school. After all of this struggle Melinda spoke again before the last two days of school because IT was about to happen again and she spoke and shared what all she was going through.

Speak is a really emotional and inspiring book. If you are into books which are related to women’s rights and problems girls and women have been going through, then give Speak a read.
