Where Blood Donated at ADM’s Blood Drive Goes

On Thursday, November 2nd, ADM partnered with Life Serve Blood Center and hosted its annual fall blood drive. This gave students and other people from the community a chance to come to ADM High School to donate blood or double donate red blood cells. It is important to hold these blood drives because of how much hospitals need blood for their patients. According to the Life Serve Blood Center, they use over 3,000 units, or donations, of blood every week. These donations go towards helping cancer patients, people in need of organ transplants, burn victims, heart surgery patients and so much more.

At the conclusion of blood drives, the donated blood is sent off to hospitals close to ADM, such as in Urbandale, West Des Moines and Winterset, but they are also expanding as far as Minnesota, South Dakota and Nebraska.
It may seem difficult to predict exactly where your blood will go after a donation, but Life Serve has solved that problem. On every donation bag, there is a tag specific to that person, which will not only track where that donation goes but also some information on how it was used. Just go to ThankTheDonor.org to see more about your donations.
