THINK before you post

I am so sick and tired of seeing my friends and family hurt and in tears after something untrue has been said about them online.

Just recently one of my friends was attacked via text messaging and she told our lunch table the situation. She was really heartbroken and I felt really sorry about her case, which was what inspired me to share this story so that nobody has to go through what she is going through.

Have you ever had that feeling?

With the new releases of Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter, people are now easily targeted towards cyberbullying.

Now I know most of you have been talked to about online safety in classes like leadership or freshmen seminar, but have you taken it into account?

You may think it is not a big deal but it is.

Here is something that could possibly help you, I saw a poster outside Mr. Parker’s computer class in the middle school, it is called THINK:

T: Is it true and do you know the whole story? You should go over about what you just heard and who did you get the information from and should you really go with what they’re saying because you could begin to spread that rumor and not even know it.

H: Is it helpful and can it be used in a time of need? If the situation is really critical, you should go tell someone like the principal or a counselor.

I: Is it inspiring and can someone use it to achieve their goals? You should always guide the victim to stand on their own two feet and help confront the bully to stop their tactics.

N: Is it necessary and should people know about it or should it be kept to yourself? To be honest, if it’s not that big of a deal do not make it a center of attention.

K:  Is it kind and will it lift somebody’s spirits? Do not ever fight fire with fire because it will only make the situation worse. Instead, kill with kindness so nobody can add fuel to the fire.

I advise all of you reading this to spread it, learn it and live by it so cyberbullying will never become as big of a problem as it is today.
