Senior Sydney Kuhse has been honored as September 2023’s Kiwanis Humanitarian Student of the Month. Daughter of Jodi and Chad Kuhse, Sydney has a 4.17 GPA and is involved in a myriad of activities.
Throughout her high school career, Kuhse has been in school and recreation soccer, 4H, 4H County Council, ADM Band Council, Taekwondo and is a section leader for the marching band’s drumline. Through these activities, she has earned public speaking and small group management skills. Those skills are often transferred over to her community volunteer work with the Kiwanis, American Legion, ADM Fine Arts, Adel Soccer Club and at her church.
Kuhse has enjoyed taking classes such as Principles of Engineering, Architecture and Construction 1. “I enjoy them because you get hands-on experience with engineering concepts,” she explained. ” I would try and take a wide variety of classes you enjoy so that you have a good reason to come to school,” Kuhse recommends for younger students. Next fall, she will be pursuing a Civil Engineering degree at Iowa State University.
This award was received with pleasure by Kuhse because she felt it meant her leadership qualities had been recognized by her teachers. She thinks that her teachers took her academic abilities and involvement in a wide variety of activities into account when choosing her for this honor.
In recognition of Sydney’s achievements, The Kiwanis of Adel donated 50 dollars to the ADM Scholarship Foundation.
