Abby Mullen – December Kiwanis Student of the Month
Abby Mullen, child of Gary and Laurie Mullen, is one of two students awarded Kiwanis Student of the Month for December. Abby maintains 4.0 GPA and her favorite classes are Statistics, Band and French.
After school, she participated in Speech (both individual and large group), Theatre, Thespians, and solo contest for Band; she also volunteers at her church. She says that these activities have taught her how to be more open with people.
She plans on attending Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska and majoring in biology.
When asked about what advice she has on success in school or life, she replied, “Don’t be afraid to be yourself because I’ve tried to be shy and that doesn’t get you anywhere. You have to be open to get places, to achieve your goals and to accept yourself.”
She is honored to have been awarded Kiwanis Student of the Month and she notes that, “It’s not always something you think about being recognized for, so it’s good when you are.”
When asked why she thought she had been awarded it, she decided that it was likely because of her hard work in everything she does. On top of that, Abby has been involved in the activities above for all four years of high school.
In recognition of her achievements, Kiwanis of Adel has donated $50 to the ADM Scholarship Fund.
