Movie Review: A Dog’s Purpose

Movie Review: A Dogs Purpose

If you are looking for a feel good movie that’s sure to make you appreciate your four-legged friend at home even more, then A Dog’s Purpose is the perfect movie for you. At times the acting may seem cheesy, but the real point of the movie is to get you attached to each individual dog and help you not take their companionship for granted.

The main plot of the story starts out with Bailey (voiced by Josh Gad) and his owner Ethan. Ethan gets Bailey as a stray one day and his family decides to let him keep him. The two friends grow up together and are inseparable (Ethan even takes Bailey out to restaurants and to football practices). Eventually, Bailey dies and leaves Ethan, but the soul of the dog is reborn into another dog. This reincarnation is continued throughout the movie with various dogs.

Although the plot can be predictable and there’s not much conflict within characters (except for one part), the greatest strength of this film is taking advantage of the innocence of dogs. It makes you immediately feel like you need to spend more time with your own pets and give them everything you have because you never know when they may be gone. Overall, it’s a movie that lacks true connection with the characters (other than the dogs) and ultimately aims to help you connect better with the pets to help you relate to your own dog.
