Playoff Time in the NFL
Last week the first round of the NFL Playoffs, the Wildcard round, was underway and the postseason had begun. The first game on Saturday was the Oakland Raiders against the Houston Texans, who have the best defense in the NFL. The Texans beat the raiders 27-14 after the Raiders lost their starting QB a week before, due to an ankle injury. The next game that day the Seattle Seahawks faced the Detroit Lions. The Seahawks surged passed the lions beating them 26-6. On Sundays first game, the Miami Dolphins took on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The high-powered Pittsburgh offense was too much for the Dolphins to handle as Pittsburgh soared passed them 30-12. The last wildcard game was the New York Giants against a hot Green Bay Packers Team. It was a close one at first, until Green Bay’s offense picked up and stunned the Giants. Packers won 38-13.
Next week Is the divisional round. There are eight strong teams left, and the first matchup is Saturday at 3:35 pm when the Seattle Seahawks take on the Atlanta Falcons. The next matchup at 7:15 pm that day is the Houston Texans against a strong New England Patriots team. Sunday at 12:05 pm the Pittsburgh Steelers battle the Kansas City Chiefs in what looks like is going to be a close matchup. The final game of the divisional round is going to be played at 3:40 pm and it features the fan favorite Dallas Cowboys against the hot Green Bay Packers. In a student body poll, 50% of our students picked the Cowboys to win and 33% picked the Packers to win.
Austin Flora said, “ I think the Cowboys will win the Super Bowl because they have proven all year they want to win.”
“I think the Cowboys toughest matchup will be against the Green Bay Packers but the Cowboys will come on top due to their lethal rookie duo of Prescott and Eliot,” Alec Gavin said.
Nolan Harsh thinks the Packers will win and said, “Aaron Rodgers is on fire, and when he is on fire, the entire Packers offense is hard to stop. Also, their defense is looking very good right now. But their hardest matchup right now would be the Cowboys, but, eventually the Patriots if they make it far enough to play them.”
The two teams that 83% of the student body predicted to win the Super Bowl face off this weekend in what will be an amazing matchup in the Divisional Round. But whoever wins that game still has one tough matchup before they can make it to the Super Bowl. The winners of Divisional Rounds will move on to the Conference Championships and if they win there they will move on to the 51st Super Bowl.
