Tigers Can’t Hold Off the Huskies
Last night the Tigers traveled down south to take on the Winterset Huskies. The Tigers are coming off of a win from last Friday to get their conference play started off right. The Huskies, on the other hand, were going into the game on a 3 game skid and still winless for the season. Winterset is a very young team led by sophomore Casey Kleemeier, who is averaging a little over 20 points a game. Winterset is going to have to step up big on defense if they want to shut down ADM’s offense.
One thing I haven’t talked about this year is ADM’s experienced team. They returned four of their starters and lot of bench players. They know how to gut it out in the end and play down the stretch of key games.
During the first half of the game one of ADM’s seniors, Tajen Ross, who is leading the team in scoring, was suspended in the first half of the game for team reasons and really put ADM’s first half chances at a deficit. Going into the game, fellow senior Payton Conrad was shooting 81% from the floor and looking to have another big game. Even with Ross out the first half, the Tigers have a lot of weapons to keep them in the game.
During the second half, the Tigers once again had many costly turnovers. ADM struggled to find a go-to man early in the game and fell down by 10. When the Tigers did find a go-to man is was Matthew Larson–he finished with 16 and led the Tigers to a 10-0 run to tie the game when it was tied 28-28 at the half.
During the second half the Tigers again struggled with turnovers and for the second time this year struggled down low. Ross came back into the game during the second half and scored a lot late in the game, finishing wwith 14. Conrad led the Tigers in scoring for the second time in three games with 19 points, but it wasn’t enough to match the Huskies, as the Tigers fell 62-70
The Tigers know what they have to do if they want to take it to the next level. They’ll have the chance next Tuesday against North Polk in Adel.
