ADM Rec Soccer

img_2738A lot of work and effort goes into a recreational soccer league. There’s scheduling, practice times, game times, teams, coaching, preparing fields, and much more. A lot of work goes into being on the ADM Soccer Club, ADMSC, Board.

Mike Ziegert is one of the many coaches of ADMSC. Ziegert is the 7th/8th grade girls and the 1st grade boys rec soccer coach. Ziegert has coached around 40 different teams through ADMSC. He says he has his own way of doing things and is “set in his ways,” but he has been attending a lot of soccer training sessions of licensed coaches from Waukee’s VSA soccer club this season and is incorporating some of their training techniques into some training of his own.

“For my 7th and 8th grade girls team, there is added focus to prepare them for what ADM high school coaches Kelsey Gaffney and Jeff Abbas will want them to be able to do,” said Ziegert.

Ziegert’s goals for his team are very hopeful and positive. “I just hope my teams are improving their soccer skills and their life skills and are having fun,” Ziegert said.

Jacob Schumacher plays for the ADMSC and loves the system and playing with his rec soccer team.

“I like my rec soccer team. It’s made up of a lot of people that don’t necessarily play varsity soccer at school. Everyone gets playing time and it’s just a lot of fun for me and everyone else,” Schumacher said.

Schumacher added no one has a “set” position. Wherever the players feel like playing that day, they just pump in and have fun.

“I highly encourage people to play rec soccer. Even if soccer isn’t necessarily your thing, you can still have a lot of fun and enjoy the team,” Schumacher said. “It’s not just a way to practice your soccer skills, it’s a way to make friends and friendships that will last a lifetime.”
