Thunderbolts* is a movie that features past heroes, anti-heroes, and enemies, working together to defeat a common enemy; their past. The movie features the following characters; Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), John Walker (Wyatt Russel), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Ava Starr (Hannah John-Kamen), Antonia Dreykov (Olga Kurylenko), and finally Alexei Shoshtakov (David Harbour). It also introduces some new people, like Bob (Lewis Pullman) who plays Sentry; considered one of the most powerful heroes in the universe.
I saw the movie on May, 4th in the Fridley Theatres’ “The Palms Theatre and IMAX” in Waukee, with a couple of my friends.
The movie started off with Yelena Belova parachuting off of the second tallest building in the world, the Merdeka 118, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They actually filmed on site.

They then went to a different location and filmed this shot. It consists of Yelena (Florence Pugh) walking away from a building that gets blown up, talking into her phone.

The movie then moves to another mission given to Yelena, where she has to take out someone for Valentina, because of her impeachment trial. In the movie, we find out that Valentina is the Director of the CIA, and her company has ties to illegal things happening with it. It’s not explicitly stated, however Valentina says it could hurt her in trial if the government does investigate it.
The movie grossed over $270 Million dollars as of May 11th. This is based off of boxofficemojo.com, where they list every movie of the year and place them on the list. It is also the number one movie in America, and was number one grossing movie after three days of release worldwide. This information is coming from screendaily.com.
Now, I would place the movie at a solid 9/10. It sets up a wonderful beginning point for a New Avengers team, however there are some big things I would like to address.
Sam Wilson was told to make a new Avengers that would be operated closely with the government. Then Val makes her own Avengers team, which Sam does not like. So how will the future of Avengers work? Will they work together and form a universal singular team, or will they hate each other and get in each others way? I guess we’ll see in Avengers: Doomsday when it comes out in May of 2026.
Please let us know what you think, and if you have any theories of what might happen. Especially with the post credit scene. We’ll also see what happens in The Fantastic Four: First Steps movie that releases on July 25th, 2025.
