2024 Summer Jobs for High School Students

This is the job bulletin board that is posted in the commons. There are many different opportunity’s for kids in Adel listed.

The summer is the perfect time for high school students to get a job and start working. ADM students have opportunities all around them to be able to start making money during the summer doing something they enjoy. Located in the commons is a bulletin board that displays a list of flyers for high school-level jobs in the area that are looking to hire.

The jobs listed on the bulletin board have a variety of skill levels and age requirements that need to be met. The legal age to begin working for a company in Iowa is 14 years old. The jobs at this age may be limited but the school has presented students with many opportunities.

Olivia Gehring has worked at Scheels in the Jordan Creek mall for about a year. She said, “My favorite part about working at Scheels was the discount. I enjoyed everything at almost 50-60% off. It was most helpful during the holidays when I was buying gifts for family members.”

This Scheels location is hiring for floor positions, check out, and in their candy shop. This job comes with many benefits including their large discount on all products. You can find applications in-store, online, or you can call.

Spurgeon Manor is hiring part-time dietary aides (16+) and universal workers (18+). Spurgeon Manor is a nursing home located in Dallas Center, and they are currently in need of help filling various job positions. You can apply here, or call 515-992-3735.

The city of Waukee is hiring summer positions at its various locations including parks, Sugar Creek Golf Course, Triumph Park, and other public works. Their flyer is posted in the commons with more specific job positions and age requirements. Their applications opened in January but it is not too late to apply.

The Adel Parks and Recreation and The Adel Aquatic Center is taking application for summer positions. The Adel Aquatic Center is looking for lifeguards ages 15 and older, and the first year pay is $12.00 an hour. Adel Parks and Recreations is looking to fill a variety of positions including Art in the Park Instructor, Art in the Park Assistant, ball field concessions, and youth league umpires.

If you are 18 years or older and looking to get a job this summer before trade school, Cook Plumbing Corp has an opening. CPC will pay for your trade schooling if you are just getting into plumbing. The starting pay is $18 an hour with normal working hours from 7:00am – 3:30pm. This job comes with benefits including 401k, health, dental, vision and accident insurance, paid holidays and vacation time.

There are many open job positions if you are interested in working with kids. Kids Korner Two is hiring for this summer and next school year. One benefit to this job is that you do not have to work weekends. West Side Kids Daycare is in search of dependable, caring, trustworthy, and fun-loving people to work at their daycare in Waukee. You can call or stop by and fill out an application.

ADM Childcare has a position for the 2024-2025 school year available to high school students. The job takes place after school at Adel Elementary. The hours are 3:15-5:30pm, a couple days each week and the starting pay is $15.77 an hour. Applications can be picked up in the high school counseling office.
