ADM’s March Teacher of the Month title has been given to Emma Bedard. She got her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and later got her Master’s degree in English Education from Mizzou. Bedard has been teaching at ADM for the entirety of her teaching career of 6 years. At the high school, Bedard teaches English III, English IV, and Intro to Theatre.
Bedard decided to become an English teacher because she was positively influenced by her English teacher in high school. She also shares about her AP World History teacher and how both teachers were “amazing and such an inspiration” to her. Those two teachers especially taught her that becoming a teacher was more than just teaching your chosen subject, but also impacting the lives of the kids who walk through the doors.
When asked what being Teacher of the Month means to her Bedard answered, “It means so much to me that I’m making a difference in the lives of my students.” When nominated, her students described her as kind and a positive presence. To her, building a social and emotional connection with her students is a very important part of teaching. Bedard wants all her students to know that they are what keeps her going every day and she loves seeing everyone each day.
