March’s Kiwanis Humanitarian Student of the Month is Addison Kuonen. She is a senior and is the daughter of Chris and Ashley Kuonen.
With a 4.0 GPA, Kuonen’s three favorite classes in high school are yearbook, Family and Independent Living, and English. She enjoys the yearbook class because it’s a unique class that not many students get to experience. Family and Independent Living is one of her favorite classes as well because it wasn’t too challenging and had interesting projects. Finally, she enjoys English because she loves being in class with her teacher, Mrs. Johnson.
Kuonen has learned leadership skills and how to collaborate with other people through her experiences in 4H and Cheer, as well as volunteering at AHeinz 57 and Meals from the Heartland.
She plans to attend Iowa Central for two years and then transfer to Iowa State with a major in Graphic Design. Kuonen advises to not procrastinate your schoolwork to avoid unneeded stress. “Make sure you always try your hardest,” Kuonen said.
Kuonen feels she has been honored because she has devoted a lot of her personal time to volunteering throughout her entire high school career. “It has taken up a lot of my life,” she shared.
In recognition of her achievements, the Kiwanis of Adel have donated $50 to the ADM Scholarship Foundation.
