Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover: A Review

Reminders+of+Him+by+Colleen+Hoover%3A+A+Review

Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover is simply a masterpiece. To say I couldn’t get myself to put this book down at times is an understatement. If you are looking for a book you won’t want to put down, look no further, and check out Reminders of Him. I know this is one of those basic reads you’ve probably seen on BookTok, but seriously give this book a chance.

To sum up the content of the story without spoiling too much, I would say it is about a 26-year-old named Kenna who struggles with finding her place in life. Kenna goes to prison for ‘accidentally’ killing her serious boyfriend. While in jail, she finds out she is pregnant with her boyfriend’s baby whom she killed. She ends up giving birth to the baby while in jail, and her boyfriend’s parents get all custody rights of the child. The story starts five years later when she gets out of jail. Freshly out of jail, she moves back to the town where her previous boyfriend lived in hopes of meeting her child named Diem. The whole book is about Kenna trying to get her life together, so she can have custody of her daughter. However, there are MANY challenges she comes across on the way including dealing with her ex-boyfriend’s family. Many conflicts get in her way of meeting her daughter. No one wants anything to do with her which makes it feel impossible to be able to form a relationship with Diem.

The book is set up where two characters have their own chapters. It goes back and forth between Kenna speaking, and then her ex-boyfriend’s best friend. The switching of people talking makes it very interesting to read and provides the reader with an action-packed story. Another thing that really makes this book pleasant to read is the emotion it brings up. Throughout the whole story, the author writes in a way that makes you just feel for Kenna. Hoover makes your heart break for her while she is going through this extremely difficult period of her life.

Overall, I would highly recommend giving Reminders of HimĀ a try if you are looking for something new to read. I also would push you to read this if you enjoy fiction stories with a lot of suspense. Definitely consider picking up this read. There really aren’t any dull moments throughout the entirety of the book.
