How to Have a Successful Job Interview
If you’re reading this, chances are you’re a broke high school student who is trying to get a job. I’m here to help you with that. Here is how to have a successful job interview…
First things first, dress professionally but also comfortably. You want to present yourself well but also feel at ease. It’s better to over dress than show up in a pair of jeans. Dress pants are always a good option.
Secondly, prepare yourself ahead of time and have someone ask you practice questions. For example some questions usually asked are; what do you consider to be your strengths and weaknesses? What is your greatest accomplishment in life? Take some time to think through some good answers so you’re not just saying the first thing that pops into your head.
Next, as soon as you meet your interviewer, shake their hand and make eye contact! This is so important. It makes you look professional, confident and friendly. Our teachers here at ADM do a really good job of preparing us for this by shaking our hand every day we walk into class. Mrs. Basinger said, “It gives you a competitive edge to other people who don’t have that practice or skill.”
During the interview, stay calm and don’t be nervous. You want to seem very confident and like you know what you’re doing, even if you don’t. This is your time to brag about yourself and tell them all about how great of a person you are. At the end of the interview shake their hand again and thank them for their time.
I hope this helped prepare you and I wish you the best of luck for all of your future interviews.
