Olson: I Hate Being a Reporter

When I joined News, I thought it would confirm what I already knew – that I wanted to be a journalist. I loved to watch TV shows about people going out and getting the story as a reporter, and I had been absolutely certain that this was my path. However, as the year progressed, I quickly realized that I really wasn’t cut out for that type of work.

I’ve never been the most outgoing person; I’ve pretty much always kept to myself and avoided talking to new people. However, as I quickly learned this year, you have to talk to people to be a reporter. Being in News this year forced me to break out of my comfort zone and spark conversations with dozens of strangers. This caused me insane amounts of stress, which caused me to have to figure out how to tell a story without talking to anyone. Thus, the Tasty knockoff videos were born.

Instead of confirming my calling to be a reporter, I instead found a love for creating and editing videos. I have no idea what I’ll do with this newfound knowledge… probably nothing. But at least now I know.
