Book Review: Some Boys
The book Some Boys, written by Patty Blount, was probably my favorite book that I read in 2015. It was completely frustrating and inspiring and I couldn’t put down, but I am also the type of reader that enjoys reading books that make me frustrated until I get to the end. The life lesson that you receive after reading this book is mind blowing. You begin to look at every situation differently.
Some Boys is about a young girl named Grace who wasn’t making smart choices one night and decided to drink. One of the boys, Zac, who she was hanging around took her into the woods and raped her. Ian, one of his friends, finds her and calls her parents and she is sent to the hospital. She doesn’t remember much because she was drunk. No one at school believes that anything happened, because nothing was reported.
Everyone is disgusted with her; they see her as someone who tried to ruin Zac’s life. Zac was the star player on the lacrosse team and couldn’t afford to lose his chance at receiving a scholarship.
Grace began to get bullied. They damaged her car, called her nasty names, and she lost all of her friends. Eventually, Ian and Grace reconnected. They both know the rape happened, but every time the subject gets brought up they argue and the topic gets shut down. Her biggest fear was being rejected by Ian because secretly she liked him, but surprisingly Ian didn’t reject her and is just too afraid to admit that he knows it happened. Reading more into Grace and Ian’s relationship, you realize that love can beat anything. Things start to look better for Grace.
