When Will The Wack be Back?
As many of you know, the Wacky Crew is the newest fad to take ADM by storm. If by some miracle you haven’t heard of them, the Wacky Crew is a group of ADM boys on their way to make it big on Instagram.
When asked about what made them want to start doing their videos, Caden DiMaio said, “We have a very broad message to all the youngins out there. We want them to live their lives and do what they wanna do.” Jack Spoonemore added “Live to the fullest. We were always being wacky and people said they wanted to see us do that on video.” Braidon Lee said, “In the summer we’re just always doing random, wacky stuff like jumping off bridges and swimming in the river, so we just thought people would wanna see that and have a laugh.” Noah Kahler, the group’s videographer said, “We just wanna make people laugh and smile.”
Most of what the group does on their Instagram page is what most adults would categorize as irresponsible, but to them, what they do is empowering them and the people who watch their videos. Some of their latest stunts include jumping into rivers, sledding behind cars, and shaving heads.
To come up with an idea for a video, Lee said, “What we do, is we all meet up at Wack-Man’s (Spoonemore) house, we sit in his room, and just think.” Spoonemore added, “We would think like, oh what if you got hit by a car, then someone would say what if you got hit by paintballs? So we’d sit and debate for about an hour and then film it within the next hour.”
Originally the group had existed for years with Spoonemore, Kahler and Trevor Smith. Spoonemore said, “The other guys were like ‘let’s start a YouTube’ but I wasn’t really about the YouTube game so I said ‘let’s do Instagram, and if we gain a sort of following on Instagram then maybe we can move over to YouTube’, so that’s what we did.”
When I asked Smith about what he enjoys about the Wacky Crew, he said, “I like making people laugh, because people enjoy watching us get hurt and stuff, so it’s just pretty funny.”
In their first two months alone, they’ve amassed over 1,000 followers on their Instagram page, and have gained recognition from many graphic designers and photographers, and even the states most infamous group, Iowa Chill. More recently with the start of the second semester and spring sports, like track, rugby, and eventually soccer, with a few other events, The Wacky Crew has decided to go on hiatus, needing to step back from their sudden fame and focus more on what got them their in the first place… being teenagers.
