Movie Review: The Martian
For fans of sci-fi and survival flicks alike, The Martian is an outer space survival story sure to trump them all. It is based on a novel of the same name by Andy Weir, which was published in 2011.
Matt Damon stars as a sardonic astronaut-botanist named Mark Watney, who is the only man on Mars after his crew leaves him following a series of catastrophic events. Watney is forced to use his unique skill set as a scientist and literal part-time space pirate to survive. Damon’s supporting actors and actresses include big names like Sebastian Stan, Kate Mara, and Sean Bean.
Director Ridley Scott is obviously in his element with this film; his repertoire includes legendary space movies like Prometheus, Alien, and Blade Runner. The Martian has also been met with overwhelming approval from the masses. Movie review sites like Rotten Tomatoes and IMBD have given the film superb ratings.
The film is two hours and twenty minutes long, although the length is well worth the breath-taking views of space and the suspense in Watney’s life or death situations.
Although The Martian is no longer in theaters, I highly suggest you buy or rent it; either way, it is entirely worth the view.
