Court in Session

Every year, the senior class elects five girls and five boys onto the Homecoming Court to represent our school. Our 2015 court includes Jessica Craigmile, Hunter Gibson, Brianna Mueller, Jacob Hardy, Rachel Origer, Zach Johnston, Allison Wisgerhof, Frank Weiland, Taylor Hanson and Jonathan Norris.

Our first queen candidate was Jessica Craigmile. Jessica is involved in soccer, math club, international club, ecology club, SADD, NHS and book club. On the day of announcing the election at the assembly, Jessica was gone due to her hip surgery. When she found out she was elected, she didn’t expect it, but was very excited. Her campaign strategy was quite tedious…Jessica intercepted king candidate, Zach Johnston’s campaign letters, and wrote “P.S. vote for my girlfriend!”

Our first king candidate was Hunter Gibson. Hunter is involved in football, wrestling, fall play, soccer, rugby, baseball, student council, Big Brother program and is President of SADD. When Hunter’s named was called, he was shocked, as he did not even vote for himself. As far as campaigning goes, Hunter went flat. He stood back and watched as other people slowly crept ahead of him. But he was okay with that because he wanted Jonathan to win.

Our second queen candidate was Brianna Mueller. Brianna is involved in basketball, track, SADD, FCA and math club. “I wasn’t expecting to be elected on court,” said Brianna. “But, I was very excited, though!” Brianna says she did not participate in any type of campaigning, but she did say, “I’m not salty that I lost because I’m still a winner in my mom’s eyes.”

Our second king candidate was Jacob Hardy. Jacob is involved in football, basketball, fall play and SADD. When announced on Court, Jacob said that he was surprised, but happy that our senior class chose him to represent our homecoming court since he’s always down for wearing a sash. Jacob did all he could in the campaign department. He posted ads in the news while posting signs on people’s front doors. Once Jacob found out that he did not win, he wasn’t upset because he can only handle one sash at a time, so it was better Jonathan got the win.

Our third queen candidate was Rachel Origer. Rachel is involved in volleyball, basketball, soccer, NHS, International Club, Math Club, SADD and Speech. Rachel says, “Being elected on Court was the greatest day of my life since I had been dreaming about being on the court since I was in the womb.” As far as her campaigning, she said that she sent out fruit baskets to all of her peers in hopes to get as many votes as possible.

Our third king candidate was Zachary Richard Johnston. Zach is involved in football and wrestling. When announced onto Court, Zach was very shocked. He didn’t want to be on the court because he was afraid of coming in second. But he did all he could with campaigning to make sure that did not happen. He claims that he sent handwritten letters to every student, with a surprise baby picture of himself on the inside. Unfortunately, he ran out of stamp money, so the letters were not received, which led to his demise in the running for king candidate.

Our fourth queen candidate was Allison Wisgerhof. Allison is involved in speech, FFA, band, dance team, and Big Sister program. When announced on court, Allison says she was very surprised on being elected onto court. Allison states that she had no campaign strategy during homecoming week, and is very happy that Taylor Hansen won homecoming queen.

Our fourth king candidate was Frank “The Italian Stallion” Weiland. Frank is involved in football, basketball, and soccer. When elected, Frank wasn’t shocked since he was used to being above everyone else. As far as campaigning goes, Frank set up a meet and greet, flexed for some cameras, signed some babies, and smiled his famous Italian smile. Once he found out he did not win, he was quite upset, but remained a king in his girlfriend’s eyes.

Our final queen candidate was Taylor Hansen. Taylor is involved in international club, helping out backstage at the school plays, and has devoted much time in community service work. She played her campaigning strategy quite safe…Taylor produced a public service announcement, sold personal tees, and kissed babies. When announced as the 2015 homecoming queen, Taylor hadn’t expected to win along with her boyfriend, king candidate Jonathan Norris. She was very excited because Jonathan is her best friend and says, “It’s going to be an awesome memory and story to tell someday!”

Our final king candidate, and winner of homecoming king, is Jonathan Norris. Jonathan is involved in choir, school play, and speech. When elected, Jonathan was very happy, but questioned whether the voting had been rigged. He did no campaigning, as he wanted all of his fellow king candidates to win. Once he was announced king, he was shocked and immediately questioned whether or not his girlfriend, queen candidate Taylor Hansen, would be mad if he won and she didn’t. But as we all know, the power couple took control over this year’s homecoming, winning both King and Queen.

During homecoming week, our court is very busy participating in all of the homecoming activities throughout the week, so obviously their campaign strategies are quite far-fetched. Each of these homecoming members was very grateful on being elected by their peers and even more happy that Taylor and Jonathon were crowned 2015 king and queen!
