Review – Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Going into the theater to see the next film in the Star Wars series was just as exhilarating as each time before. If you too are a Star Wars fanatic, then you know what I’m talking about. You sit in your seat waiting patiently for the loud boom of the familiar soundtrack and the starry scenery with the background information scrolling past on the screen. My experience with the newest addition, The Last Jedi, was no different.

Despite the routine, this movie was full of surprises. The viewer is hit with brand new ideologies, like a new way to communicate through the force. We are also introduced to more new characters and delve into their backstories. The storyline itself is also full of unexpected events. It is not predictable or mundane.  And to add to the unpredictable nature, the viewer is left without a clear ‘winner’ at the end of the movie. Which, much to the Star Wars lover’s delight, most likely means another movie is in the works.

Even with all of the new, surprising elements, the movie can seem to drag along at points. While space attacks and lightsaber battles are fun to watch for a few minutes, it is easy to see how someone unaccustomed to the Star Wars movies would get bored and ready to see something new.

But, for those who wait for months to attend another Star Wars movie, it is just enough. It is full of action, drama, friendship, and of course a stubborn but comical, Luke Skywalker.

Be ready for the light and dark sides to become a bit grey as you watch Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
