Advice Column- How do I Raise my Algebra 2 Grade?

Practice problems provided by Mr. Krause as an exit slip.

Dear Tiger,

Math classes, in general, can be very stressful and time-consuming as a high schooler. Moving from Geometry to Algebra 2 can be quite the jump for some students. As a student who has taken Algebra 2 class, here is my guide and how-to raise or improve your grade.

1.) Homework! Take time to sit down with music or in a quiet room whatever works for you, and really work on the problems. Finish the assignment with effort instead of checking Slader for the answer. Make sure you know each step and equation needed for each style of problem. If you cannot get an answer or understand the concept, schedule time to go in and ask, or even ask while the class is checking over the homework the next day.

2.) Speak up! If you have a question while Goodale and Krause are teaching, ask it! If you do not feel comfortable asking in front of the whole class, take time out of a study hall, tutoring, or before school to ask them one on one.

3.) Take notes. When the teacher is teaching take notes on the steps and key points that you need to understand while performing the problem. Personalize your notes so you understand and can study from them! Use these notes to help with homework. Like before, if you do not feel comfortable to ask a question, mark it on your notes that you need to review!

4.) Test Review. When the last assignment for the test is assigned, make sure you know each problem. Perhaps even go through each section review! If you know one section trips you up, practice it till you understand it, don’t skip it, it could be on the test.

5.) Talk to the teacher. Retakes or improving homework scores may be optional. “Do your assignments and understand it. Don’t use Slader or borrow your friend’s answers,” says Mr. Goodale.

In all, math can be stressful. Take time dedicated to the classes that cause you trouble. If you are still having problems learning and understanding the material talk to a teacher and see what would be beneficial to you and your grade!

Sincerely,

Katie Hoy
