Larson: A Senior’s Farewell
As a member of the single greatest News Journalism class in ADM history, I would like to say it was honor being a part of this very special team. I learned many things throughout the year, including how to conduct interviews, how to decide what stories need to be told and I learned time management skills in order to get my projects done on time. However, coming into this class I expected to learn those things, but what I didn’t expect to learn was the things I found out about myself as a person. I realized that I really care about the person next to me and what their personal story is. I learned that everyone has their own unique background and experiences that shape them as people and that their stories need to be told. This class helped me grasp this concept and that just because there are certain people out there I may not talk to, their voices still have reasons to be heard.
My advice to future staff members is that this is a very interesting and unique class that allows you to try things you would never be able to do anywhere else. You get to make fun videos, podcasts, write stories, record sporting events and do things that ultimately help you get more involved in what’s going on around the school. You get to meet new people and learn about the various activities that person is in and why they do them. Also, the class always has a positive feel whenever you are in it, so if you were bogged down by a previous bad math or science class earlier in the day, you can count on journalism to help brighten your mood. So I ask you, why not take News Journalism? You may come into the class interested in learning about other people, but I guarantee you will learn just as much about yourself in the process.
