Behind The Scenes of The Bachelor
It is a big decision for anyone to participate on The Bachelor. This season started with 30 women competing over one man. That is at least a 96% chance that you will leave single and heartbroken.
Aside from the risk of being sent home, the girls have to endure staying at the mansion with the same people for days on end.
The contestants on The Bachelor live at the multimillion dollar bachelor mansion in L.A. and do not have the freedom to come and go or even run errands. In Allure, Olivia Caridi (season 20 contestant) said, “We were so bored all day. There was so much downtime.”
While some girls spend time with the bachelor himself, we get a peek at the rest who are usually sitting around talking at the mansion. What we don’t see are what activities the girls do to stay entertained.
“We were always doing beauty routines because that was literally all we had time to do…There was a lot of beauty and pampering for each other that never really gets aired,” said Caridi. At least that gives the girls time to sleep considering many of the first rose ceremonies last until six in the morning!
Other stresses of being on the show are that contestants are not allowed access to their phone, the internet, or television while filming. Since phone calls are reserved for emergencies only, many of the contestants put their careers on hold and hand over their finances to their parents while they’re away.
On top of not working, contestants stock up on beauty products and an impressive wardrobe for the potential month and a half of being on the show. On her blog, Jillian Harris (season 13 contestant) said, “I had remortgaged my house and I spent something like $8,000 on clothing.” Each contestant packs TV-ready outfits for traveling to both freezing and tropical climates to last for weeks- even if they go home after the first rose ceremony.
See if you can pick out these secrets on The Bachelor, Monday nights at 7 p.m. on ABC.
