Judging a Book by its Cover

Judging a Book by its Cover

Throughout all our lives, most of us are told to not judge a book by its cover, but I decided to see if just how well that lesson stuck. The book I have people judging is George R.R. Martin’s A Clash of Kings.

For anyone having not read the book, it is the second book in A Song of Ice and Fire and centers around the war of kings.

The first person I interviewed about this was Ashely Poch, a senior who has actually read the series. She said, “I don’t want to spoil it.” And the main point she made was “there’s gonna be a war.”

Konnor Chase, a sophomore provided more substantial answers. “It’s about kings, old times… I know it’s Game of Thrones.” He added that he thinks “a lot of death, overthrowing a kingdom” will happen.

Batool Alkamel, a junior exchange student, said, it’s “probably historic things, it’s Game of Thrones… I’m not that into Game of Thrones… it’s a lot of pages.” Based on just the cover, she believes it will be about “a King, something happens to the King.”

Overall, I think everyone noticed the details that stood out, like the crown and the Game of Thrones banner at the top. This is also a very plain cover, but almost everyone got at least some part of the plot correct. So yes, people can still judge by the cover and are quite good at it.
