La La Land: A Must See
La La Land is a romantic comedy musical all about Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) trying to make it big in L.A. Throughout the film Mia and Sebastian struggle with pursuing their individual careers and balancing their new relationship. The somewhat cliche conflict is realistic and relatable while the soundtrack gives it the feeling of a classic Hollywood movie. It is almost magical how a simple melody on a piano can be more powerful than any spoken words or lyrics. Although Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are not known for their voices, I enjoyed their performances, dancing, and overall chemistry when interacting with each other. Their acting and passion really brings you back to Old Hollywood.
The detail put into the movie is amazing. The color, costumes, and set put the final touch on the look of the film. The flow of the plot is also impressive because of the many actions, feelings and supporting roles it includes.
This movie leaves the audience torn as they root for the love story but also their own ambitions. The ending is emotional and surprising. It teaches you a lesson of what’s really important in life and that it’s nearly impossible to get what you want without sacrificing something else.
La La Land is truly a must see for anyone who misses classic Hollywood or loves romance and music. You’ll leave the theater full of mixed feelings much like the characters on screen.
