Book Review: Random
Random by Tom Leveen is a book about suicide from the side we don’t usually hear from. Tori Hershberger, a sixteen-year-old, is on trial for influencing another student’s suicide. The book takes place in a less than 24 hour time period, and begins the night before Tori is to go to trial for this felony. Within the first pages of the book you will be hooked, as a random caller phones Tori stating something shocking; he wants to kill himself, and wants one reason to not drive off a cliff.
Tori first believes it is another prank call, as the story of her and the other students that ’caused’ a student to kill himself was big news in her area. But suddenly, she isn’t sure if it is a prank or a real life situation. She ends up staying on the phone and connecting to this boy who is contemplating taking his life. Tori is in a race against time to save him, as she does not want another death connected to her.
Random is a quick read at 224 pages with large print. If you enjoyed Thirteen Reasons Why, you will definitely enjoy this book.
