Musical Review: Once Upon A Mattress

I went to the school musical, “Once Upon A Mattress” the first night of the performance, November 11. It was a great mix of romance, comedy and music! All of the actors played their roles very well.

I especially enjoyed the humorous character, King Sextimus, played by Ryan Brownsberger and the charming Princess Winnefred played by Spencer Evoy. The King had wonderful facial expressions and body language as he was unable to speak for the majority of the play. Evoy portrayed Winnefred’s personality perfectly through her songs and bundle of energy.

I was also impressed with Queen Aggravain played by Rachel Suarez. She was very professional as she acted out her high maintenance, picky character.

The music was very entertaining. The cast was in sync and full of energy which made the songs enjoyable and told the story very well. My favorite duet was with Lady Larken (Cora Larsen) and Sir Harry (Luke Huen) called, In A Little While, where they showed otheir love for each other. Then the song Song of Love, sung by the whole cast made me laugh with their crazy actions and expressions during the party scene.

If you didn’t attend the musical, you missed out on seeing these talented students’ hard work pay off in this very entertaining performance.

Props to Mrs. Longman, Mrs. Cassel and the whole cast and crew!
