Life Serve Experience: Totally Worth It
Last Friday, Life Serve Blood Center came to the school for the blood drive, this was my first year donating, so I thought I’d share my experience, needless to say, some (one) of the pictures contains blood. So, squeamish be warned.
After going through a waiting period, the staff directs you to a chair.ere you see my trademark “FarmBoy” aesthetic.

Before the needle is inserted, they mark the vein. You have to squeeze the stress ball a couple of times, so they can actually see your vein.
After sanitizing the area for the needle, they set up the blood bag and tube set. The needle is then pushed into the vein and begins siphoning your blood.
The bag that the blood flows into is set in a rocker, to mix the blood with fluid already in the bag. (Apologies to our more squeamish viewers)
As a first time donor, I’m quite proud I did not pass out (although I did get light headed, and, as a result, was given approximately 30 ice packs).
Here you see the two inside my socks. Thankfully, they matched my jeans.
I most whole-heartedly recommend donating blood. Not only do you get out of class and get delicious snacks, but you can also save up to three people’s lives with only a pint of your blood.
