I know you don’t want to, but it’s time to accept it. In less than two months, the seniors will all be gone, off to pursue their new life. School is supposed to prepare us for our futures, so how do ADM seniors feel about their classes?
Kae Nau is pursuing a career in early childhood education, so naturally her favorite classes are introduction to education and classroom field experience. Taught by Mrs. Knipper, these classes are taken in conjunction, totaling one year.
“I like classroom field experience because I got to actually be around the kids, but intro to ed was good because I got to make lesson plans and teach them, along with the logistics [of teaching].”
Sometimes people move here from other schools, altering their four year plan slightly. One such student, Blake Corbisier, took AP calculus his junior year and reported it was his favorite class. Although many students don’t enjoy math, Corbisier does.
“ It’s pretty quick learning, but typically the people in there are all friendly. They all know what they’re doing. The teacher is also good at what he does. Although it’s difficult, it kind of teaches you what college is gonna be like.”
Corbisier is going into theoretical physics, a very math-heavy major. Another student, Tate Truitt, chose a more hands-on class, engineering, as his favorite.
“Mr. Reams is an amazing teacher and an amazing guide to be around, but it was also because of the group and the friends that I made in that class. And the coursework is very. . . worthwhile. I would say it’s very difficult, but you see results and you see your progress and it makes a class better.”
Although some students, like Corbisier, take a class because they know it aligns with their future plans, some students experience the opposite; a class helps determine their future plans. This is what Truitt experienced.
“ I do want to be an engineer because of some of the classes that I took and the classes, the engineering classes that I took have helped my decision in what I want to be.”
No matter what grade you’re in, evaluate your classes, because they can make a difference in your life. Hard work can become passion, and that passion can become your future.
