The newly released snow white movie is currently rated 1.3/5 by viewers. The movie was released on March 21, 2025, and has disappointed many viewers due to the underperformance of the casting and directing.
The original snow white was released on December 21, 1937. The plot line follows Princess Snow white. Having lost both of her parents at a young age, Snow White is living with her wicked and cold-hearted stepmother, the Queen. Fearing that Snow White’s beauty will outshine her own, the Queen forces her to work as a scullery maid. The queen asks her Magic Mirror daily “Who is the fairest one of all” and one day the mirror answers with “Snow White”. While the new movie follows the same plot, the directors made a few changes throughout the movie that have left viewers disappointed.

“There wasn’t even a prince.” said Mentzer, a frequent movie goer, “He was a thief. I was expecting a prince.”
The directors of Snow White said the changes were designed to modernize the film so it “would resonate with a 21st-century audience.” I hardly think a palace thief resonates with a 21st-century audience more than a prince.
The romance from the traditional snow white was there with the “true loves kiss” but it was not what I was hoping for and was so much different from the original snow white.
Another thing that threw me off about the newest version of snow white was the dwarves. Because it was live-action, I thought every character would be a real person. The dwarves however were computer-generated imagery.
I did like the characters of the dwarves and they still had their funny names (sleepy, grumpy, etc.) they also had a good song in the movie. But they just were not what I was expecting.
“I don’t know what to think. That was not what I was expecting at all, I’m slightly disappointed,” said Carlson who claims her favorite movie is the original Snow White.
I was more than slightly disappointed because when I think of a live-action movie I expect it to follow the animated version exactly or as closely as possible. The songs were also much different in the live-action which was disappointing to me because the original soundtrack is so good. Although the songs are different, the new snow white soundtrack is very catchy and engaging.

The movie features lyrics and music written by the EGOT-winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, with contributions from lyricist Jack Feldman and songwriter Lizzy McAlpine.
My favorite song was “Princess Problems” which ranks up there among the best songs in Snow White because it offers character development and narrative progression.
“I liked the “Good Things Grow” song, it was uplifting,” said Mentzer
While the movie was engaging and entertaining it did not meet my expectations or follow in the footsteps of the original Snow White.
“I will not be watching that again,” said Carlson.
