The annual Pops Concert for ADM’s choir groups on February 28, 2025, showed the creativity and excitement of the many choir groups. With group and individual features, the concert consisted of 18 songs. This concert was a unique and different experience.
The Pops Concert is very different from the other concerts that the choir has. One difference is the attire; the choir has more freedom with what they can wear. The other major difference is the music.
“Music is the other big thing, and the obvious big thing, is that all of the music now is one genre… it ranges from current pop music to old pop music,” Daniel Novotney, the choir director, said.
These songs are better known than the songs the choir typically sings. For the concert, they sing popular songs, choral and show choir pieces, as well as songs from musicals. While some of the choral and show choir pieces are less known, their musical pieces are known by many.
“ They [ADM Choir] are singing songs from Wicked, Rent, and Phantom of the Opera,” Novotney said.

One popular song from a musical that was sung at the concert was I See the Light from Tangled. This song was sung by Lucy Allen for a singer spotlight. Allen is part of the high school concert choir.
“ I think I like it more just because the songs are more fun. We can kind of get into it a little bit more than just a choral song,” Allen said.

Another spotlight singer was Reyna Shirley-Brown. Shirley-Brown sang Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. She also had a solo in Magnolia song by the AMP choir and in Somebody to Love sung by the ADM Singers. Shirley-Brown recommends the Pops Concerts for anyone interested in listening.
“ We sing a lot of music that people know, and so it’s sometimes, easier to listen to, more enjoyable to listen to. And you also get to see a lot of different components of choir,” Shirley-Brown said.
Other than the singer spotlights, five different choir groups sing. AMP and Good Vibes are two jazz choirs that start the concert. The Concert Choir and ADM Singers follow the jazz groups and both perform individually before combining and finishing the concert as a combined choir. The combined choir included everyone involved in all the different groups and together performed a show choir piece, where they sang and danced.
“ I think it’s really fun because you also, there’s like a show choir feature, so like people get to like sing and dance, which is always fun. And also it’s fun to just get combined with the other choir, just like meet new people, stand by new people,” said Avery Garrity, a dancer for the combined choir.
The Pops Concert is a fun time for both the singers and the audience. It is a favorite for many and highly recommended. With the mix of popular songs and entertaining dances, it showcases many different aspects of the choir groups. This 18-song-long concert is a great highlight of ADM’s many choirs.
