A Complete Unknown is a film starring Timothee Chalamet who plays the infamous Bob Dylan and, it is rated 4.7/5 by various audience members. This movie is rated R due to language and smoking. Other stars in the movie include Elle Fanning, Edward Norton, Monica Barbaro, and Boyd Holbrook.
The movie is set in 1961 and follows 19-year-old Bob Dylan as he arrives in New York and begins his music career. The movie is inspiring and shows the hardships of the period in the music industry and Bob Dylan’s struggles in his relationships and job.
A Complete Unknown starts with Bob trying to grow his career in folk music. He meets various people including Pete Seeger, Johnny Cash, and Joan Baez who all help him learn life lessons and grow his singing career. He begins by singing in coffee houses and dining rooms but makes his way to catastrophically large concert venues singing sold-out shows.
Timothee does a fantastic job playing Dylan. He spent many months preparing for the role, which was shown in the film. His voice was much different from the other roles I have seen him play like Wonka, Dune, and Little Women. He was able to give himself a sort of accent to portray this character. Timothee does very well in his various roles, but this was one of his best because he sang every song with his voice instead of using voiceovers like many others do.
I would rate this movie an 8/10 because it was very good and awe-inspiring. I did not know much about Bob Dylan before watching it but it was cool to learn about his life and the struggles he encountered in his career. Dylan was a very stubborn person and went against what many people wanted him to do but I think that was what made him stand out in the industry. I was very impressed by the acting in this movie and while it is not completely historically correct, it does a great job of depicting Bob Dylan’s life.
