Thanksgiving is a time to relax with family and friends and talk over a grand meal to express gratitude. Instead of focusing on the people, in this story I’ll be looking at the rankings of favorite Thanksgiving foods.
#10
Green Bean Casserole
Green bean casserole is a crime to humanity. A mosh-posh of greens and Hell’s nightmares. It’s a staple dish of the holiday, but no one wants to dump it on their plate.
#9
Cranberry Sauce
Cranberry sauce is absolutely nasty. It’s juice in a can, and made of Jell-O. Though, you can’t have Thanksgiving without the dreaded cranberry sauce across the table.
#8
Sweet Potato Casserole
Compared to the other snacks and treats on the Thanksgiving menu, sweet potato casserole is one most will not be picking, especially when the top three on this list are choices. A marshmallow and sweet potato goodness sounds delicious, but when trying a bite, you may want to think twice.
#7
Pie
It’s a shame pie is this far up, but with the various types of pie on the table, and right after filling your plate up more than once, pie can be hard to get down. Pie is never a bad thing on the menu, but right after a massive dinner and a nap, it can become monotonous.
#6
Mashed potatoes & Gravy
Mashed potatoes are a year-round food brought to the Thanksgiving table. Mashed potatoes are never bad, but it’s not the staple dish of Thanksgiving. Though, with gravy, it could be considered for a better rating.
Brian Sandblom said, “Mashed Potatoes with gravy? It’s amazing. I always fill my plate.” Mashed potatoes can also be included in a load of other dishes and prepared in different ways.
#5
Turkey
The dish most people think of when they think of Thanksgiving. However, when the turkey is dry, so are the portions on the plate. It can truly depend on who’s cooking the turkey, which makes or breaks the Thanksgiving dinner.
Blake Corbiser says “It truly depends on the cook of the turkey, and if it’s juicy or not.”
#4
Mac and Cheese
Depending on the recipe, and who made it, this could be considered #1. It’s either really good or really bad. The combination of cheese and noodles is hard to beat.
Tate Truitt said “Mac and cheese is good anytime, but it’s good on Thanksgiving as well.”
#3
Stuffing
Stuffing is one of the main dishes you see on the menu for Thanksgiving. The spices and herbs have a delicious flavor to remember. Though, Mr. Gitch says, “Stuffing and mashed potatoes, mix them in well, mix in some gravy, and I’ll eat that any day.”
#2
Ham
Some may say I’m biased, and this is a Christmas dish, but this is essential to a family dinner, or at least a choice between ham and turkey. A slow-cooked ham doused in pineapple juice and rosemary can’t beat anything else on this list. The meat is soft and delicious. This can only be beat out by first place.
#1
Bread rolls
The soft chewy rolls with honey butter and pepper, straight out of the oven, could make an old man cry from their deliciousness. A Thanksgiving dinner without rolls is a dinner I won’t be having. It’s an essential piece on the table that goes with anything you pair it with.
