This year has been a very good year in Iowa sports, Iowa State had their first ten win season ever and Wartburg made it to the third round of the NCAA playoffs. There are some people on those teams who used to go to ADM. A huge part of why these student got to where they are today is due to the coaches.
Mr. Rupe is the wrestling head coach as well as the assistant Football coach. He also teaches some physical education classes. When asked how he felt about so many ADM alumni doing well in college Mr. Rupe said “there are about 13 people, and they are all doing well.” He then went on to metion both Brevin Doll, who now plays for the Iowa football team, and Aiden Flora, who plays for the Iowa State football team. He was very grateful to have taught them and felt very proud of the young men that had become.
Mr. Gitch is the coach of our Mens Golf team and an assistant Football coach. He also tries to help Mr. Rupe as much as possible. When it comes to college sports Mr. Gitch said “Grandview has a great program.” He also talked abot two students in Grandviews sports programs. One of these people was Tate Stine-Smith who plays as a running back for the football team. The second person brought up is Rhylan Stine-Smith who plays for the Junior Varsity Basketball Team. when talking about Rhylan Mr. Gitch said “He is a short kid playing on the JV team for a small college so he’s not going to get far but at least he is trying.”
Mr. Perman is an assistant Football coach and middle school baseball coach. Mr. Perman talked about how the athletes were when they were in his class. Mr. Perman said “they were all great kids to be around and interact with in the classroom as well as with sports.” He was very proud of everything the students had accomplished and was excited to see where the future would take them.
All of this goes to show that our coaches care about us even after we graduate and with Mr. Winkowitsch as our new head coach maybe we could get even more ADM students in college sports.
