Musical theater is back after two years of being gone. This large group Speech category is being coached by Madeline Gude. They will be singing songs and performing from the musical version of School of Rock.
Riley Milburn is in both of the sections of musical theater, and said, “I’m happy that musical theatre is back and I think it has been really fun so far. It allows me to get more experience with musical theatre and get better at all the aspects that go into it. I don’t have one favorite moment but I love the dynamic of everyone in the group and how we’re all able to joke around with each other. I’m excited to see musical theatre at ADM to get more developed and for more people to want to get involved.”
Musical theater coming back this year was made possible by Gude who not only teaches Spanish but also has a degree for teaching musical theater. Gude said, “My life has been an absolute zoo but I am finally finding time to sit down and listen to musicals.” She also claimed that she was excited to see all of the people who would join musical theater for this Speech season.
The large group musical theater team had a hard time picking a musical that fit the feeling the group was going for. The musical adaptation of School of Rock was chosen because it had some serious moments with some good laughs.
The last time musical theater was taught at this school it was a group of seniors that didn’t make it past districts, so musical theater could only be a one year category again, or it could go for many more years in the future.
