November is the best month to give, since Thanksgiving is at the end of the month, it is also why it’s considered the “Month of Giving”. The students in charge of student council wanted our school to spend the entire month giving back to the community. Volunteering is a mostly optional, but wonderful way you can give back to the community. You can volunteer for a school event, or you can find a random place to volunteer. During this month of giving, I interviewed two individuals, Jacob Bass and London Warmuth, about their past month and what they volunteered for.
Senior Jacob Bass started volunteering because, “I know that you need a certain amount of hours and it looks good on your resume.”
When asked how students at ADM could get involved Bass said, “Just have to ask, like there’s always stuff for volunteering. You just go around and ask people and then get the form from the counselors and fill it out.”
Pictured above is the volunteering approval forms located outside the counselors office.
Senior London Warmuth has been volunteering since freshman year and is involved In the silver cord program, “I was first introduced to it my freshman year with some friends, as well as my older siblings…”
Warmuth said she loves volunteering because “I’ve just met so many people, I’ve worked with different age groups and it’s kind of fulfilled a part of my life of just being able to serve others.”
When asked how ADM students could get involved with volunteering Warmuth responded by saying, “You can get involved through local activities and church. There’s always ways you can sign up as well, you can sign up through the school. If you go to your announcements (in email) and there’s a page at the bottom of the announcements where there’s opportunities listed throughout the month.”
Warmuth is in the Silver Cord program, and helps plan the November Month of Giving for the Student Council. When asked about the silver cord process she said, “All four years throughout your high school, you’re going to want to get community service hours for your freshmen and sophomore year. There’s 80 hours combined to break it down, you need to get 40 per year, freshmen and sophomore combined.”
While we may only have a couple weeks left in the month, feel free to give to anyone. Now while this month may be the month of giving, you can show your care and give every month. Everyone deserves a little support, so let’s give them it.
