Ella Subbert and Ellsyn Livingston are two of the twelve members of the varsity volleyball team. What sets them apart from the rest of the team? They are the only underclassmen on the varsity squad. Not only are they the only underclassmen, but the only freshmen.
“It is kind of stressful but overall it is super fun and it is definitely something new. We don’t want to mess up the seniors’ year and I think that is what makes it pretty stressful. ” Subbert said.
The Tigers are currently 19-7, and their next upcoming game is this Tuesday, October 29th, at Glenwood with a ticket to the state tournament on the line.
When asked how it feels to be a freshman on the varsity volleyball team Livingston shared, “It is definitely a level up to other teams I have been on, there is a lot more attention on us,”
Livingston and Subbert started off their volleyball careers in fifth grade on a club team that both their moms coached.
“I did not think I would be on varsity so that was unexpected. Our Central Camp was scary because it was a different speed and a lot of different styles of play than we were used to. It took some getting used to, especially getting connected with teammates because we did not know anyone,” said Subbert.
When asked their goals for the remainder of the season, Livingston said, “To get to state- and maybe even win state.”
Subbert said, “To give the seniors a memorable season. They are such a great group of upperclassmen to look up to.”
