February’s Kiwanis Humanitarian Student of the Month is Kenneth Steenhoek. Steenhoek is the son of Alicia and Joel Steenhoek. He is a senior at ADM and currently has a 3.91 GPA. Steenhoek’s three favorite classes here at ADM are AP Chemistry, AP Psychology, and band. Steenhoek states that he enjoys his AP classes because “AP Psych and Ap Chem are challenging enough that it keeps me active enough but it’s not hard enough that I feel like I’m gonna fail.” He also enjoys band because of his love for music and because of the atmosphere of the band room.
Steenhoek is actively involved in band and humanitarian cord. Band has taught him the importance of having and relying on a team and the skills he needs to collaborate in a group setting. Being an active participant in the humanitarian cord has allowed Steenhoek to be more social, meet lots of new people and help his community.
Steenhoek volunteers almost everywhere. He enjoys helping wherever he can, whenever he can. He frequently volunteers at the Adel soccer club by helping with the setup and tear down of the soccer fields, and at the Adel Fire Department where he helps with their events.
Steenhoek plans on attending Iowa State University in the fall of 2024 and plans on majoring in mechanical engineering. Some advice he would give to others to help them be successful in school and home life would be, “Don’t procrastinate and it’s okay to rely on other people. Most people, as long as your nice about it, most people will help and you should not be ashamed for asking for that help.”
Being selected as Kiwanis Humanitarian Student of the Month proves to Steenhoek that his hard work has finally paid off and he can be proud of all of his accomplishments. He believes that he has been honored with this achievement because of all of the hard work that he has put into volunteering, his academics, and just who he is as a person and student.
In honor of his achievements, the ADM Scholarship Foundation will be donating $50 to the Kiwanis of Adel.
