February’s Fine Arts Student of the Month is Nic Carmichael. Carmichael is the son of Chris and Sara Carmichael. He is a junior at ADM High School and has been chosen as Fine Arts Student of the Month for his work and participation in academic decathlon.
Carmichael is very active in academic decathlon as well as band. He is currently holding the top slot in competition for academic decathlon as well as second and third chair for clarinet in band. Being an active participant in academic decathlon and band has taught him how to be a leader and what a leader looks like, as well as responsibility and accountability regarding his commitments.
When asked why others should participate in the activities he is involved in, Carmichael said, “They’re really fun and just a good way to learn responsibility. Band, yes you do a lot of stuff in class, but you also have to go home and practice. Mr. Braun is not there to hold you accountable so it also teaches you accountability. Academic Decathlon, it’s just kinda a way to I guess be a nerd and just have fun.”
He was very surprised to find out that he was selected as Fine Arts Student of the Month, however, he did state, “At the same time I know that I am a person who just kind of gets stuff done, and makes sure that it is done, so from that point of it, I understand.” Carmichael believes that he was honored as Fine Arts Student of the Month because of the role he plays when the seniors are gone. He prides himself in being the leader and helping his team be efficient when the seniors are gone.
In honor of his achievements, Lincoln Savings Bank will be donating $100 to the ADM Scholarship Foundation.
