ADM had never had a state bowling qualifier until senior Sam Kock rose to the challenge and achieved every athlete’s goal of making it to state. Kock was one of two students who qualified for state, the second being Reid Jackson of Waukee. Kock explained that the season went extremely well for the team. They accomplished many goals, one being winning the conference. Cole Darling and Owen Evans were named first-team all-state. The team also won the CIML conference regular season title.
When asked if he enjoyed playing with Waukee and if he saw ADM getting their own bowling team, Kock said, “Yes, I really enjoyed playing with all the Waukee kids. I think ADM should get their own bowling team because we have really good bowlers here, and I’ve even heard rumors of us getting one in the near future.” Kock believes that ADM might introduce their own bowling team into the athletic program hopefully by the time they finish building the new High School. A new bowling team would mean opening up new opportunities for students in the school and would hopefully bring positive social benefits for kids.
The 2024 state tournament was held at Cadillac XBC in Waterloo, the tournament began on February 19 and ran through February 21. Individual competitions began in the mornings, and team competitions were held in the afternoons. Kock arrived on February 21 and continued to have a great performance. He finished 4th place in the class 3A bowling individual bracket. Kock encourages more students to go out and try a new sport. They help kids develop physical skills, get exercise, make new friends outside of school, learn the importance of teamwork, learn to always play fair, improve self-esteem and of course have fun.
